Alongside creating my own ceramic pieces, I offer relaxed pottery classes in Dorset designed to help you experience the joy of working with clay in a calm and welcoming studio.

These creative workshops are open to adults of all abilities — from complete beginners to experienced makers, including those with learning disabilities or additional needs. No prior experience is needed, and there’s no such thing as not creative enough!

Everyone is welcome to explore, play, and discover their own creative voice.

Each session focuses on hands-on connection with clay. You can learn to throw on the potter’s wheel, handbuild, or work on your own projects, with gentle guidance and personal support throughout.

In the rush of everyday life, it’s easy to feel disconnected. I hope that in my studio, you’ll find a moment to ground yourself, slow down, and reconnect through the mindful process of creating with clay.

So if you’ve been searching for a ‘pottery workshop near me’, my small, inclusive classes (maximum of 4 people per session) are here to create space for creativity, have fun, and get a bit muddy!

Throwing Workshop

Session run time
Three hours \ Cost £80pp

Number of makers Two makers required

This workshop is a three-hour pottery class designed to introduce you to the art of throwing on the potter’s wheel using stoneware clay.

This hands-on pottery workshop offers a calm, supportive space to learn the fundamentals or refine your technique.

Whether you’re a complete beginner or looking to improve your skills, you’ll receive personal guidance to help you feel confident and connected at the wheel.

What will we do?

The session begins with a short introduction to both myself and the stoneware clay you’ll be using. I’ll demonstrate the full throwing process, from centering to shaping, so you know what to expect at the wheel.

We’ll move at your own pace, starting with simple forms such as cylinders, and working in a rhythm that feels comfortable for you. Over the three hours, there’s time to create a few small pieces, perhaps a bowl or two, as you build confidence with the process.

We’ll pause halfway through for a short break, with tea and coffee provided (and maybe a few biscuits…)

With over 30 years of throwing experience, I understand that everyone approaches the creative space differently. You’ll have as much time and guidance as you need at each step.

  • At the end of the session, you can choose two of your favourite pieces to be fired and glazed. Additional pieces can also be finished for a small materials charge.

  • Firing and glazing take time,  usually around four to six weeks. Once your work is ready, I’ll be in touch to arrange collection from the studio.

  • It’s completely natural to feel unsure about joining a new class — especially if you haven’t worked with clay before. My sessions are relaxed, supportive, and designed to move entirely at your pace.

Consent and comfort are at the heart of how I teach. I’ll always ask before offering any physical guidance, and you’re free to say no or ask for space at any time.

The studio is a quiet, calm environment with small groups (no more than four people). We can adjust lighting to suit your needs — keeping it low if you prefer, while still making the most of the soft, natural light in the space.

If you have sensory sensitivities, please feel free to share anything that helps you feel comfortable — we can plan together to make sure the session works well for you.

And if you’re thinking, ‘I’m not creative enough’ — please don’t worry. There’s no right or wrong way to work with clay. By the end of the session, you’ll have a few pieces you’ve thrown yourself, and hopefully a new sense of confidence in what your hands can create.

My aim is simply to offer a space where you can slow down, explore, and enjoy the process of making — with no pressure, and full support throughout.

Six-Week Course

Session run time
Two hours each week

Cost £200pp

Number of makers Two makers required

This six-week pottery course offers a flexible way to learn pottery at your own pace - whether you’re a complete beginner or developing existing ceramics skills.

With guidance in both wheel-throwing or handbuilding (or both!), you can explore techniques in a relaxed and supportive studio environment.

Course Structure

If you prefer a more structured approach, I can create a loose structure for your six-week pottery course, shaped around your interests and what you’d like to learn. Whether you’re drawn to throwing on the wheel, handbuilding, or a combination of both, you’ll receive tailored guidance that supports your pace and your ideas.

With three wheels in the studio, there’s plenty of space for personalised teaching. My years of teaching larger groups mean I can offer focused attention to each maker, helping you build confidence and develop your skills in an encouraging environment.

Please get in touch if you’d like to book a place on the six-week pottery course. I’d love to hear your ideas and support you as you learn and create.

  • If you'd like to follow a flexible structure, we can explore techniques such as:

    • Clay preparation

    • Handbuilding methods

    • Surface decoration

    • Working with slips

    • Throwing on the wheel

    • Glazing and finishing

  • I generally run my six week courses from 7pm-9pm on weekdays.

However, I am flexible and would love to hear from you.

Handbuilding Workshop

Session run time Three hours

Cost £80pp

Number of makers Two makers required, up to four

This three-hour handbuilding pottery session introduces you to the feel of clay and the techniques people have used for thousands of years. I’ll demonstrate each step, then guide you as you shape simple forms such as pinch pots and slab-built pieces, helping you explore your own creative style.

This workshop is ideal for beginners or anyone curious about working with clay. With a maximum of four makers per session, you’ll have plenty of space, time, and support in a calm and welcoming studio.

During the class, you’ll learn key handbuilding techniques and create a handbuilt slab mug to finish the session.

We’ll pause halfway through for a short break, with tea and coffee provided (and maybe a few biscuits…)
