Courses

Alongside creating my ceramic pieces, I run relaxed courses that give you the opportunity to experience the joy of working with clay.

These are suitable for adults with all levels of ability and experience. No prior knowledge is needed, and there is no such idea that “I am not creative enough!”

Enabling you to connect with the clay, and really engage with the process of creating through hands-on experience is the focus of these sessions.

In the rush of everyday life, distractions can take us away from ourselves. Grounding into the process of creation can be a highly individual experience, and one that I can help guide you through.

Introduction to Pottery

10am - 4pm

£120pp | Up to 4 makers

This 6 hour session begins by introducing the clay to your hands, and working it in ways that many humans and cultures have engaged with over thousands of years.

I will demonstrate the processes, and as you begin to guide the clay into simple forms such as pinch pots and coil pots, I will be there to help you navigate your own creative style.

A break for lunch around 1pm moves us into the afternoon; this brings the opportunity to experience throwing on one of my two wheels. I will demonstrate the process of throwing, centering and creating a small cylinder before you can choose to have a go, or return to handbuilding.

This session is great for those who would like to explore how to connect with clay, and have an overview of some of the processes involved. There is no pressure, no expectations, and with a maximum of 4 makers in the studio at any one time, you will receive as much guidance as you need.

At the end of the session you can choose up to 3 pieces to be glazed and fired. This can be a long process, and so they will be available for pickup in 4-6weeks. I will email when pieces are ready and we can arrange pickup.

We will break for 30 minutes around 1pm, please bring lunch for yourself. Tea and coffee will be available.

Introduction to Throwing FOR TWO

10am-1pm or 2pm-5pm

£60pp | 2 makers required

This introduction to throwing is designed for those who would like to learn the fundamentals of throwing.

Starting with a demonstration, I will introduce the clay as a medium, covering clay preparation before moving to centering, and shaping the clay.

I have been throwing for over 30 years, and recognise that we will all approach the creative space with different experiences. The process can be taken at your own pace, with as much time as you need to feel comfortable with each step.

This session will give you enough time to create a few small simple forms, one of which can be fired and glazed after the session for you to take home.

This process can take up to 4-6weeks, and I will email when your piece is ready and we can arrange pickup.

These sessions will run with 2 makers to ensure I am able to give you the tuition needed.

Throwing Experience Day FOR TWO

10am - 4pm

£120pp | 2 makers required

This day session really focusses on introducing you to the art of throwing, and honing your techniques in a supportive and relaxed environment.

Beginning much like my introduction to throwing session, I will start by introducing clay preparation such as kneading and wedging the clay. I will then give a demonstration so you know what to expect from your time, explaining the steps of centering and shaping the clay.

We can take the session at your own pace, creating simple forms such as cylinders, until you feel comfortable with the process. Later on in the session we can create wider forms such as a bowl.

This session is a chance to enter a space where process is celebrated, where you can connect and ground yourself, quieting the world outside.

We will break for lunch around 1pm for 30 minutes. Please bring lunch for yourself, tea and coffee will be available.
